I printed this desk shelf system recently, and I really like the core idea. If half-star ratings were allowed, I’d give it a 3.5. The concept is strong, but a few issues in execution hold it back.

What works well:

The standardized spacing between the 7/8" dowels is the best part of the design. It makes the whole system modular and allows for useful accessories that clip over or sit between dowels. I’d love to see this part expanded because it’s where the design really shines.

Where it falls short:

The tolerances are extremely tight across the whole system. Tight tolerances are better than a loose, but with 3D printing’s many variables, you really need test pieces. As it stands, you have to print full components before finding out that something doesn’t fit, which wastes filament and time.

Simple test models would fix this: a ring matching the dowel-hole geometry, a rail and slider for both the shelf and corner systems. Because the files are closed source, users can’t make these themselves, so it’s important for the designer to include them.

On my print, the dowel holes in the legs were too tight, making assembly harder than it needed to be. I had to sand down the inside of the holes to get the dowels through (and yes I used the right sized dowels for the model I printed)

Modularity limits:

The rail-based shelf system limits shelves to about 9.5 inches wide. Understandable given printer bed sizes, but a shelf that hangs directly from the dowels would offer much more flexibility. It would allow shelves and drawers to sit side-by-side without extra legs, making the system far more modular.

Final thoughts:

This is a great idea, and the designer clearly put a lot of thought into it. But the lack of tolerance test pieces and the tight fits make it harder to use than it should be. Most of these issues could be solved with a few small additions. If those updates were made, this would easily be a 5-star product.

Love the product, the files, all the options. It is amazing. One request is a list of what is needed for what. Example is what parts do I need to print for a drawer or what parts do I need to print to attach headset holder or laptop stand. I see lots of parts and options but unsure what goes with what and what is needed or what is an option.
